BFC reveals Fashion Awards nominees

The British Fashion Council has revealed the nominees for the new globally focused Fashion Awards with Jonathan Anderson, Gucci’s Alessandro Michele and Demna Gvasalia of Vetements and Balenciaga among those to receive multiple nods.

Chair of the British Fashion Council Dame Natalie Massenet revealed the nominees at a brunch at Los Angeles’ Soho House, which was also attended by BFC CEO Caroline Rush MBE, Nadja Swarovski of main sponsor Swarovski and model and ambassador Karlie Kloss, along with members of the media and other fashion industry figures.

Earlier this year, 1,500 key members of the fashion industry were invited to put forward their preferences for each category. The voting body represents 41 countries across media, retail, communications and creative disciplines such as photography, art direction, set design and production. Nominations were made in nine categories with the five brands/individuals receiving the most nominations shortlisted in each category.

For the first time this year, many of the categories are open to international awards (the event had previously been focused predominantly on British and British-based talent). Also the event, which takes place on 5 December at the Royal Albert Hall, has been repositioned to act as a fundraiser for the BFC Education Foundation for which it aims to raise £10m over the next 10 years.
