The Shard: 85% let

MATCHESFASHION.COM is set to take over a new 35,000 sq ft space the The Shard for its London HQ. The luxury fashion retailer and etailer will join luxury jeweller Tiffany in the iconic building, which is now 85% let.

Founded in 1987, MATCHESFASHION.COM is currently headquartered in South West London. The business has a network of bricks and mortar stores in London with locations including Wimbledon, Notting Hill, Richmond and Marylebone.

Since the launch of its website in 2006, the business has become increasingly global and now serves customers in 176 countries. The business recently revealed that online now accounted for 85% of turnover while international sales represented 70% of turnover.

MATCHESFASHION.COM offers an edit of more than 400 international and emerging designers such as Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Alexander McQueen. It will make the move its new London Bridge location in Q2 of this year.

Tom Chapman, co-founder and co-executive chairman of the business with wife Ruth said they had “never felt more inspired about the opportunities ahead – marked by this move to The Shard, the peak of London’s iconic skyline. As we continue to expand globally we will have London as our backdrop in this emerging hub of e-commerce and technology.”

Around 300 of MATCHESFASHION.COM’s staff will be based at the new office, which will bring together five existing offices. “[This] will strengthen the interconnectivity between departments, from buying to tech, ecommerce and content. This inspirational working environment will maximise our unique position as the only true modern luxury shopping destination and continue to attract the best talent,” Chapman added.

MATCHESFASHION.COM is The Shard’s first letting to be confirmed this year, following the twelve lettings in 2015, and its second major fashion brand. It joins the likes of Tiffany, Campari, The Office Group, Gallup, Sage and Warwick Business School taking the total number of office occupiers in The Shard to 26 across 15 business sectors, with 50% of the businesses drawn to the building from the West End, The Shard claims.
