Global menswear trade fair Pitti has named JW Anderson as its next guest designer for the June edition of its Florence-based event.
Anderson will show his SS18 men’s collection at the event on 14 June and said the Tuscan capital would be the “perfect backdrop for the collection”. Northern Ireland-born Anderson launched his men’s line in 2008 (womenswear came in 2010) and usually shows at London Fashion Week. In 2015 he became the first designer ever to win both the menswear designer of the year and womenswear designer of the year at the British Fashion Awards (now The Fashion Awards).
Pitti Immagine director of communications and events Lapo Cianchi said it had been “keeping a careful eye on Jonathan Anderson’s career for several seasons”. “Above all, we are drawn to the creativity and eclecticism he expresses in his collections that are further enhanced by high-quality manufacturing and, in menswear, by undisputable sartorial skill,” he said.
As well as running his own line, Anderson is creative director of LVMH-owned Loewe and he has just curated his first exhibition for The Hepworth Wakefield. Called Disobedient Bodies it runs from 18 March to 18 June. He joins an illustrious line-up of guest designers at Pitti which have included Sir Paul Smith and Raf Simons.
