Huishan Zhang to open first store in Mayfair

Lauretta Roberts | 18th September 2017

London Fashion Week designer Huishan Zhang is set to open his first store on Mount Street in London’s Mayfair.

The store, located in one of the capital’s most prestigious shopping destinations, was designed in collaboration with London-based interior designer Fran Hickman with a concept that takes its cues from Zhang’s brand combining Eastern heritage with Western influences.

Inspired by the motto “every cloud has a silver lining” the store is arranged as a series of areas separated by arches with something new to explore in every corner.

Zhang also commissioned artist Rachel Dien to created a unique plaster and concrete design which is embossed onto the walls of the shop and which features quintessential British flowers. Zhang’s designs – his latest collection was presented at London Fashion Week today – feature flowery textures using lace and embroidery.

The colour palette for the store was inspired by Chinese gardens with white and grey walls and black pillars with the collections lending the colour.

Huishan Zhang was born in Qingdao in China and left when he was 17 to spend time in New Zealand and Paris before moving to London to study at Central Saint Martins from where he graduated in 2010 with a BA Honours and MA in pattern cutting. He made his London Fashion Week debut in 2012 and his label is stocked in some of the world’s most prestigious multi-brand retailers including Browns, Joyce and Barneys.
