According to Forbes, power isn’t just about being rich and famous – The Industry finds out where fashion ranks.
If asked who the most powerful woman in fashion is, most of us would instinctively respond with the name of American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, infamous for her clean cut bob and razor sharp tongue. However designer, Diane von Furstenberg topped Wintour for the first time yesterday, as Forbes released their list of the most powerful women.
Diane von Furstenberg was crowned fashion’s most powerful woman alongside fellow industry heavyweights, Miuccia Prada of Prada, supermodel Gisele BĂĽndchen and of course, Anna Wintour. Von Furstenberg‘s fourth term as president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and her recent collaborations with Roxy and Evian have earned her power points with the publication, letting her creep up the list to a respectable 33rd place.
Women’s Wear Daily explains, “Forbes calculated its list by looking at money (a company’s market value and revenue), media presence (news hits on Factiva and radio appearances), and impact, or ‘the extent of their reach across industries and countries.'” Forbes also cited political prowess and philanthropic deeds as integral when looking to monopolise your sphere of influence amongst the fashion pack.
