Browns launches exclusive Basquiat capsule

London boutique Browns has launched an exclusive capsule collection, Basiquiat for Browns, to co-incide with the first major UK retrospective of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s art at The Barbican.

The collection was created in partnership with New York streetwear brand Rome Pays Off and features ready-to-wear, footwear and accessories and a skateboard, with prices ranging from £90 for a t-shirt to £250 for a denim jacket.

Basquiat for Browns is available on the Browns website and in-store on South Molton Street, where a pop-up shop has been created. The windows of the iconic store have been given over to the collection.

Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat is synonymous with the 1980s street art scene in New York and was taken under the wing of Andy Warhol. He used his art as a form of social commentary marrying text and imagery and historical references with modern critique to tackle themes such as poverty and injustice. He died in 1988 aged 27.

Basquiat Boom for Real runs at the Barbican until 28 January.
