River Island takes on rivals with launch of homewares

Fashion giant River Island is preparing to take on High Street rivals Zara, Next and M&S by launching its own homeware department, including possible standalone stores, the Standard can reveal.

The privately owned retailer — with almost 300 branches worldwide — has hired a “head of buying for homewares” for the first time.
