The Industry finds out how fashion designers faired in Google‘s annual Zeitgeist list.

As the year draws to a close, Google has revealed their Zeitgeist list. Measuring the year’s fastest growing search terms, Google annually depict a picture of how their search engine has captured the spirit of 2012.

Aggregating billions of search queries a day, Google is the most used search engine on the World Wide Web. In this way, the function acts as a good barometer to what’s caught the nation’s attention. In terms of fashion designers, Stella McCartney amassed the most search engine traffic this year (no doubt a direct consequence of the invaluable brand exposure she received after designing the kits for Team GB at the 2012 Olympic Games). These results show the true extent of what marketing can do for a brand, and what this opportunity meant for Stella McCartney as a business.

The fastest growing search terms for fashion designers in 2012 were as follows:

Google‘s Zeitgeist list measures the year’s fastest growing search terms, rather than the largest volume of searches. It therefore shows how trends in search have changed upon the previous year, eliminating the searches that are the same year-on-year.
